ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (6-3) rolled past Stevenson in a 9-0 victory over the Mustangs (1-8) on Thursday morning at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando.
The Royals have now won two straight and three of their last four matches to start the spring season.
In doubles play, the pairing of freshman Mayjah Jean-Pierre (Linden, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's)/senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) and freshman Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep)/sophomore Maddy Tratthen (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep) both swept their respective opponents, 8-0.
Nowak and Loughlin both cruised to 6-1, 6-0 victories at the top two singles flights against Torrienne Emery and Jacquelyn Nesbeth of Stevenson. In No. 3 singles action, freshman Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) recorded a thrilling win in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 10-8) over the Mustangs' Kera Skove.
Freshman Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) was a straight set (6-4, 6-2) winner in No. 4 singles to go along with a clean sweep from O'Mara (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) also took a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Jess Sesay at No. 6 singles.
The Royals wrap up the team's Florida trip with a match against Bentley tomorrow. First serve is slated for 8 a.m.
