Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (3-4) used a dominant third quarter to pull away from Rowan and never looked back in a 13-7 victory over the Profs (2-5) on Wednesday night at the Lacrosse & Soccer Complex in Glassboro.
The Royals have now won consecutive meetings against Rowan dating back to the 2019 season.
Scranton led 5-3 at half and scored five goals in the third quarter while holding the Profs scoreless to open up a 10-3 advantage. Rowan would never get closer than six goals the rest of the way, which came in the final seconds of the contest.
Head coach Chrissy Trescavage's squad struck first with an unassisted goal from sophomore Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and classmate Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.J./Lynbrook) followed with a tally of her own for a 2-0 lead at the 7:18 mark of the first quarter. The Royals led 4-2 at the end of one and senior Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) added a goal just under four minutes into the second quarter for a 5-2 edge. From there, the Profs would score the lone goal in the remainder of the half at the 7:49 mark to make it a 5-3 game at halftime.
Stalter opened the scoring in the afore-mentioned dominant third quarter off an assist from Tanajewski to stretch the lead to 6-3 for the time being. Freshman Allie Halfpenny (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) scored three of the next four goals for Scranton including two in the final 90 seconds of the quarter that opened up the 10-3 lead. Conklin and fellow senior Jennifer Williams (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) each found the back of the net in the fourth quarter to extend the advantage to as many as nine at 12-3 and the Royals were able to cruise to a second straight win.
Halfpenny led the way for the Royals with a career-high four goals, while Stalter tallied a career-best five points on two goals and three assists. Elsewhere, Williams added a hat trick and Conklin had two goals of her own in the win.
Freshman Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) was impressive in net for Scranton with 11 saves, while senior Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J./Morris Catholic) added three draw controls, a ground ball and three caused turnovers.
Ashley Lechliter topped Rowan with four goals in the losing effort.
After playing four straight and six of their first seven on the road, the Royals return home to host Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference opener on Saturday night at Weiss Field with action set to get underway at 7 p.m.
