Box Score

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) scored a career-high five goals and The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (2-2) rallied from an early deficit to top No. 17 Cortland (1-2) in a 13-11 win over the Red Dragons on Saturday afternoon at the Cortland Sports Complex.

Saturday marks the first ever win for the Royals over Cortland.

The Red Dragons scored three of the first four goals of the game and led 5-3 after one quarter, but Scranton quickly answered early in the second quarter as a Solleder tally evened things at five apiece at the 11:22 mark. From there, Cortland held on to a 6-5 edge for more than six plus minutes before goals from Solleder and senior Mike Bouhall (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) in the final 1:14 of the half gave the Royals a 7-6 halftime lead.

Both teams continued to trade blows in the third quarter and Cortland once again held a one goal lead (10-9) late in the quarter when goals from Bouhall and junior Chris Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) over the final 1:53 gave Scranton an 11-10 lead after three. The Royals led 12-11 after Cortland's Liam Ford scored with 7:20 to play and were able to hold the Red Dragons scored the rest of the way. Holding the one goal edge, junior Colin Pierce (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) forced a Cortland turnover with 1:29 to play to set the stage for Crapanzano's third goal of the game with under a minute left to seal the victory.

Solleder, Crapanzano, Bouhall (two goals, two assists) and senior Finn Duignan (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) who also had two goals combined to score all 12 of the Royals' 13 goals on the day, while junior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) added a goal and four assists.

Cortland was led offensively by Pat Doyen who had three goals and three assists and a hat trick from Zak Jones.

Pierce scooped up a team-high five ground balls for the Royals and sophomore Andrew Lord (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) registered three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In goal for Scranton, freshman Evan Rosa (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington School) tallied 17 saves to earn the win in his first career start, while Travis Wagner took the loss for Cortland with 14 saves in the setback.

The Royals return home to host Muhlenberg in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Weiss Field with action getting underway at 4 p.m.
