SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (7-4, 1-0 Landmark) won four of the six singles matches and picked up a 6-3 victory over the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (2-2, 0-2 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
Scranton led 2-1 after doubles play as the duo of freshman Mayjah Jean-Pierre (Linden, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's)/junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) picked up an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) and graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) rolled to an 8-1 win in second doubles action.
In No. 1 singles play, Jean-Pierre picked up a straight set (6-3, 6-1) win for the Royals and Nowak followed suit with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against the Blue Jays' Gabriella Palladini in No. 2 singles.
Campo and Loughlin also both added singles victories on the day. Campo was a 6-1, 6-4 winner in No. 3 singles over Olivia Richards and Loughlin registered a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Morgan Bleicher at the fourth singles flight.
The Royals return to the court next Saturday, April 9 with a Landmark Conference match at Susquehanna. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
