Box Score SCRANTON, PA (April 23, 2022) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team clinched a spot in the 2022 Landmark Conference playoffs with a commanding 16-5 victory over Moravian University on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.
Scranton (10-5) extends its win streak to six, and improves to 4-2 in conference play.
The Royals started the game strong as sophomore Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) scored off the game's opening faceoff to give the Royals an early lead. Scranton added two more early in the second period as McAree and junior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) found the back of the net. Senior Mike Bouhall (Lynbrook, N.Y. / Lynbrook) assisted on the opening three goals of the game for Scranton. The Royals added two more goals in the first period as sophomore Alex Eglitis (Randolph, N.J. / Randolph) and Solleder kept things rolling for Scranton.
Senior Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) made it 6-1 to start the second period as he scored his first goal of the game in the opening minute to keep momentum for Scranton. The Royals added four more goals before halftime, including a score from senior Sean Crotty (Long Beach, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) and took a 10-3 lead into the break.
Scranton picked up where it left off in the second half as freshman Liam Sayre (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) found the back of the net in the early stages of the third period to give his squad an eight goal cushion. The Scranton defense held strong throughout the second half as the Royals continued to add to their tally and take home a 16-5 win.
McAree scored a game-high four goals and added one assist, while Solleder added two goals and two assists to pace Scranton. Junior Chris Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) scored twice in the game for the Royals, as did Eglitis. Freshman Evan Rosa (Weehawken, N.J. / Pennington School) had another stellar game in goal for Scranton, as he made 12 saves on 17 shots faced while adding five ground balls.
The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team returns to action this Wednesday when they head to Cabrini University at 4:00 PM.
