SCRANTON, Pa. – Freshman John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) clinched the match with a thrilling three set victory in No. 4 singles and The University of Scranton men's tennis team (3-9, 2-1 Landmark) captured a 5-4 win over the Catholic University Cardinals (3-6, 1-4 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
Sinclair registered a 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 7-6 (7-1) victory over the Cardinals' Emmett Lee to secure Scranton's second Landmark win of the season.
The Royals led 2-1 after doubles action as the duo of senior James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) and junior Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) notched an 8-7 (7-2) win at the first doubles flight, while senior Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central)/junior Steven Prosperino (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem Central) were 8-5 winners in No. 2 doubles.
Harrington was a straight set (6-2, 6-2) victor in No. 1 singles over Allan Von Nostrand and sophomore Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) added a 6-3, 6-3 victory in No. 3 singles play to go along with the victory from Sinclair.
Prior to the match, Scranton honored both Sullivan and fellow senior Wes Jacaruso (Congers, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) for their contributions to the program.
The Royals will host Goucher in a key Landmark Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon with first serve at Royal Courts slated for 1 p.m.
