SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (8-5, 2-1 Landmark) won all three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over the Catholic University Cardinals (6-10, 1-4 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
Graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) and senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) picked up an 8-1 win at the first doubles flight, while sophomore Maddy Tratthen (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep)/junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) were 8-0 winners in No. 2 doubles. The duo of sophomore Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and freshman Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) recorded an 8-3 victory at the third doubles flight.
In singles play, Loughlin and Nowak picked up straight set (6-1, 6-0) wins at No. 4 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Other winners on the afternoon for Scranton included freshman Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) who took home a 6-0, 6-2 decision and classmate Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) who notched a straight set win in No. 6 singles including a tiebreak victory in the second set.
Prior to the match, the team honored the 2022 senior class of Campo and Loughlin for their contributions to the program during their time at Scranton.
The Royals host Goucher on Sunday afternoon with first serve at Royal Courts slated for 1 p.m.
