Men's Lacrosse Drops Hard Fought Battle to No. 12 Cabrini, 11-9

Box Score

RADNOR, PA (April 27, 2022) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team put up a valiant effort against the 12th ranked team in the country, but it was not enough as Cabrini came out on top 11-9 in a tightly contested non-conference contest.

The Cavaliers came out strong to start the game, as they scored the first five goals of the game in the first period. Junior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) got the Royals on the board at the 5:13 mark in the first, but Cabrini followed up with another goal to hold a 6-1 advantage headed into the second quarter.

Scranton responded well in the second period as it scored four straight goals to cut Cabrini's lead to one. Junior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) got things started off an assist from sophomore Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset). Kozak then added his second of the night on a solo goal before sophomore Alex Eglitis (Randolph, N.J. / Randolph) got on the board. Solleder capped off the run with another goal, this time assisted by senior Mike Bouhall (Lynbrook, N.Y. / Lynbrook). The Cavaliers scored a last minute goal to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

Junior Chris Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) started the third period off with a pair of goals to tie up the game at 7-7. Cabrini answered with three straight scores to regain a three goal cushion with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Kozak cut the lead to 10-8 with just under three minutes to play but the Cavaliers responded less than a minute later and held on to win 11-9.

Kozak scored a game-high three goals for Scranton and added an assist for four points on the night. Freshman goalkeeper Evan Rosa (Weehawken, N.J. / Pennington School) made 18 saves against a dangeous Cavalier offense. Freshman John O'Connor (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) held his own on faceoffs, going 11-21 on the night.

The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team returns to Landmark action this Saturday when they play at Juniata at 1:00 PM for the final regular season contest of the year.
