BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) clinched the match with a straight set victory at No. 4 singles and The University of Scranton men's tennis team (4-11, 3-3 Landmark) secured a playoff spot with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Moravian Greyhounds (8-7, 3-4 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Hoffman Tennis Courts in Bethlehem.
The Royals are the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament and will head to top seeded Drew for a semifinal match on Wednesday afternoon with first serve slated for 4 p.m.
This marks the sixth straight year that Scranton has qualified for the postseason.
On Saturday, Moravian led 2-1 after doubles play despite an 8-2 victory from senior James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) and junior Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) in No. 1 doubles.
Harrington rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Greyhounds' Anthony Ronca in first singles action, while O'Mara followed suit with a 6-3, 6-2 win in second singles play.
Sophomore Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) was a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and Sinclair clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kieran Pisani at No. 4 singles.
