SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (9-6, 3-2 Landmark) won all three doubles matches and held on for a 5-4 victory over the Susquehanna River Hawks (6-8, 1-5 Landmark) in Landmark Conference action on Friday at Garrett Complex Tennis Courts in Selinsgrove.
The Royals currently sit in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Landmark standings with two regular season matches remaining.
Senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) and graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) notched a thrilling 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles, while junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/freshman Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) recorded an 8-3 victory in No. 2 doubles play. Elsewhere for the Royals, freshman Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and sophomore Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) rolled to an 8-0 victory in No. 3 doubles over Susquehanna's Anna Ream and Chelsea Kneedler.
In second singles action, Nowak was a 6-2, 6-1 winner against the River Hawks' Julia Bramley and Loughlin added a straight set (6-0, 6-1) victory over Ream in third singles.
The Royals close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of Landmark matches at Moravian (Saturday, 12 p.m.) and Juniata (Sunday, 1 p.m.).
