ALTOONA, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (10-7, 4-3 Landmark) closed out the regular season in style with a 9-0 sweep of the Juniata Eagles (1-16, 0-7 Landmark) on Sunday afternoon at the Summit Athletic Club in Altoona.
The Royals have clinched the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament and will hit the road to battle top seeded Drew in semifinal action on Tuesday afternoon with first serve slated for 4 p.m.
In doubles play, sophomore Maddy Tratthen (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep)/junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) and freshman Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional)/sophomore Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) both registered 8-0 wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively, while graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) and senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) were 8-3 winners at the first doubles flight.
Nowak rolled past Juniata's Maggie Ackley with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles and Loughlin followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles.
Scranton won all six singles matches in straight sets as other winners included Tratthen with a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 3 singles, freshman Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 4 singles, sophomore Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) in a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 5 singles and freshman Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
