MADISON, N.J. – The No. 4 seed University of Scranton women's tennis team (10-8) battled until the end, but fell just short in a 5-3 loss to the top seed Drew Rangers (11-8) in Landmark Conference Semifinal action on Tuesday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex in Madison.
The Royals trailed 2-1 after doubles play as the duo of junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) and sophomore Maddy Tratthen (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep) picked up a thrilling 8-7 victory at the second doubles flight to put the visitors on the board.
Nowak registered a straight set victory (6-1, 6-2) over the Rangers' Mary Kalorin in No. 2 singles, while senior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Taylor Dombalis at No. 4 singles.
Drew was eventually able to secure the match in No. 6 singles as Royals' freshman Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) dropped a three set heartbreaker (1-6, 6-2, 2-6) to Kate Gangi.
Scranton had two seniors on the 2021-22 roster in Loughlin and graduate student Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock).
