Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to Kutztown in Fall Opener

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (0-1) dropped a 4-3 decision to the Kutztown Golden Bears (1-0) to open the fall season on Friday at the Keystone Courts in Kutztown.

Despite a 6-2 victory from senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) and sophomore Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) in No. 1 doubles, the Golden Bears took the final two doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

In singles play, Nowak notched a thrilling 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-5 victory over Kutztown's Claudia Makarski in first singles and Wisniewski added a 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 win against Ava Lewis at the second singles flight. At No. 3 singles, freshman Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) rolled to a 6-1 6-1 victory over Jess Marks in her first career match for the Royals.

Scranton is back in action tomorrow afternoon at Lebanon Valley with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
