SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (1-2) won four of the six singles matches and notched a 6-3 victory over the Marywood Pacers (0-3) in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Marywood.
Scranton held a 2-1 lead after doubles as the duos of senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/freshman Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, while junior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic)/sophomore Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) rolled to an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Nowak posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at the first flight over the Pacers' Alison Bashore and Sirico was also a straight set (6-1, 6-3) winner over Gabriella Nowak at the second flight.
Nocentino added a 6-4, 6-3 win against Veronica Schneider at No. 4 singles and junior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) defeated Christina Monroe with a 6-3, 6-2 decision in No. 6 singles.
The Royals return to the courts on Saturday, Oct. 1 for the King's Fall Invitational.
