SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (2-2) won all three doubles matches and notched a 6-3 victory over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (2-1) in a non-conference match on Thursday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
In doubles play, senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) and sophomore Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) picked up an 8-6 win at the first doubles flight, while fellow sophomore Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) and freshman Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) notched an 8-3 victory in second doubles action. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and junior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) recorded an 8-6 win of their own to open up an early 3-0 lead.
Nowak posted a straight set (6-4, 7-6) win against Lock Haven's Maddy Reeves in No. 1 singles and Wisniewski added a thrilling three set victory (6-3, 3-6, 10-6) over Mia Shuler at second singles. In No. 3 singles play, Sirico rallied for a three set win of her own against Olivia Anastos with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-6 decision.
The Royals return to the courts this weekend for the King's Fall Invitational with action getting underway at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
