WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 12, 2023) -- The University of Scranton wrestling team earned a 39-11 win over Hunter before falling to King's in a local tri-match on Sunday afternoon.
After the 1-1 day, the Royals move to 6-10 on the season in dual matches.
Scranton 39, Hunter 11
- At 125, sophomore Justin Schifter (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) picked up tech. fall in the first period on Diego Perez to give the Royals an early 5-0 lead.
- Freshman Shkeb Nadir (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton) followed up with a 16-5 major decision win to push Scranton's lead to 9-0.
- Senior Brandon Judge (Eynon, Pa. / Valley View) dominated his bout with a 34 second pin on Deston McFarlan of Hunter.
- The Royals took advantage of four forfeits throughtout the remainder of the match to secure the win.
King's 42, Scranton 9
- Judge picked up his second first period fall of the day at 141 as he pinned Hugh Bittenbender just one minute into the bout to earn six points for the Royals.
- Senior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton) picked up the other three points of the match for Scranton with a hard-fought 3-2 decision win at 165.
The wrestling team returns to action next Friday when they head to Penn College for a dual match at 6:00 PM.
