MONTCLAIR, NJ (Feburary 25, 2022) -- Junior Joe Boyle (Huntington, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) scored the game-winner in overtime to lead The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win at Montclair State on Saturday afternoon. 

The win marks the Royals' first of the season. 

Seniors Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge), Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) and Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) joined Boyle with two goals on the day for Scranton. 

Montclair St. scored the first two goals of the game but the Royals answered with a pair of goals from Solleder and senior Nick Donato (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) to tie the game up at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. 

Both sides continued to exchange goals in the second period as the game remained locked up at 5-5 headed into the break.

The Red Hawks had a strong third period as they outscored Scranton 3-1 to take a two goal lead with one period of play remaining. With the Royals down two goals in the middle of the fourth period, as Solleder came up big with his second goal of the game to bring Scranton within one of the Red Hawks. The Royals searched for a late equalizer and finally found it with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game as Boyle found the back of the net to send the game to overtime.

Boyle then found the game-winner with 3:31 on the clock in overtime to lift Scranton past Montclair St. in a 10-9 final.

Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Rosa (Weehawken, N.J. / Pennington School) made 7 saves in just over 56 minutes of action while freshman Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) made one save for the Royals.

The men's lacrosse team will return to play this Wednesday for its home opener against Stockton at 4:00 PM at Weiss Field.
