ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (3-4) split a pair of matches on Day Two of the program's annual Spring Break trip to Orlando.
Scranton notched a 5-4 victory over UW-Superior (2-7) before dropping an 8-1 decision to Bentley (4-8).
Scranton 5, UW-Superior 4
The Royals swept all three doubles matches and then earned victories in each of the top two singles flights for a 5-4 victory.
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/sophomore Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) recorded an 8-1 victory and the No. 2 duo of freshmen Paige Hunt (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta)/Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) notched an 8-6 decision. At the third doubles flight, sophomore Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional)/junior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) posted an 8-3 win over the Yellow Jackets' Brooke Wilfong/Daylyn Drew.
Nowak rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Andreina Tejada at the No. 1 singles flight and Wisniewski posted a straight set victory of her own at second singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Marina Dostal.
Bentley 8, Scranton 1
The two teams played six point sets in doubles play and the duo of Nocentino/Grossman notched a 6-3 win over Bentley's Rachel Holden/Anna Higgins at the third doubles flight. In No. 1 doubles, Nowak and Wisniewski dropped a 6-4 heartbreaker.
Bentley then captured all six singles matches to pick up the win.
The Royals will be back in action on Thursday afternoon against Hamline with first serve slated for 3 p.m.
