ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (4-4) rallied for a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Hamline University Pipers (2-8) on Thursday night at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando.
Scranton trailed 2-1 after doubles play despite an 8-5 victory from the No. 1 flight of senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) /sophomore Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards).
In No. 1 singles play, Nowak rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ashley Pitzen and Wisniewski notched a 7-6, 0-6, 7-3 win at the second singles flight.
Freshman Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) added a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 win against the Pipers' Natalie Randall in No. 3 singles and junior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) clinched the victory with a 6-4, 5-7, 11-9 win over Sydney Hubbard in No.6 singles.
The Royals will battle Westminster (Pa.) to close out the team's Spring Break trip to Orlando on Friday morning with first serve set for 7:30 a.m.
