Box Score ST. DAVID'S, PA (March 18, 2023) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team picked up a 10-8 non-conference win over Eastern on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Royals move to 4-3 on the season.
Scranton got on the board first as senior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) found the back of the net off an assist from junior Seamus O'Callaghan (Bethpage, N.Y. / Chaminade) at the 10:25 mark. Eastern answered quick with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Royals were able to find a pair of goals from senior Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) and Solleder to tie the game up at 3-3 headed into the second period.
The Eagles scored a pair of goals in the second quarter to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.
Senior Nick Donato (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) got the Royals off to a hot start in the second half as he scored in the opening three minutes to cut Eastern's lead to 5-4. Following another goal from Eastern, Scranton scored back-to-back goals to tie the game up at 6-6 headed into the final quarter.
Solleder broke the deadlock to start the fourth period and give Scranton a 7-6 lead. Freshman Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) and sophomore Liam Sayre (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) followed up with consecutive goals to give the Royals a three goal cushion with just over five minutes in regulation. Donato scored a late goal for Scranton to secure a 10-8 win over the Eagles.
Solleder led Scranton with three goals on the day while Donato added two goals and one assist. Freshman Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) earned a win in his first career start for Scranton while recording 18 saves on 26 shots faced.
The men's lacrosse team will return to action on Wednesday when they head to Arcadia at 7:00 PM.
