Mitchell Kozak Reaches 100 Point Milestone as Men's Lacrosse Routs Arcadia, 22-7

GLENSIDE, PA (March 22, 2023) -- Senior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) notched his 100th career point as a Royal on Wednesday night as he led The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a dominant 22-7 victory over Arcadia in non-conference action.

Kozak has reached the milestone in just two seasons at Scranton with 60 career goals and 42 career assists.

The win marks the third in a row for head coach Michael Hofmeister's squad and moves the Royals to 5-3 on the season.

Following an early goal from the Knights to open up the game, the Royals went off for six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead headed into the second period. Senior Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) had an impressive opening period, scoring three goals to pace Scranton.

Kozak and sophomore Liam Sayre (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) each found the back of the net in the second period as the Royals held an 8-3 lead at the end of the first half. 

The Royals went off to start the second half as they racked up eight consecutive goals from six different goal scorers to take a 16-4 lead with one period remaining. Scranton finished out the game with another six goals in the fourth period including the first career goal for sophomore Max Willix (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield). 

Crapanzano did it all for the Royals as he led all scorers with five goals while going 12-17 on faceoffs. Kozak matched his career-high of nine points on four goals and five assists. Freshman Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) continued the strong start to his collegiate career as he scored three goals and added two assists. Juniors Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) and Kyle Bennett (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) each added a pair of goals for Scranton.

Freshman goalkeeper Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) got the start in net and made 13 save on 17 shots faced while collecting a team-high nine ground balls in just under 50 minutes of action before getting relieved by sophomore Evan Rosa (Weehawken, N.J. / Pennington School) who made a pair of saves in the final 10 minutes of action. 

The men's lacrosse team is back at home this Saturday for their Landmark Conference opener against Juniata at 1:00 PM.
