SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (2-7) captured four of the six singles matches to help secure a 6-3 victory over the Messiah University Falcons (2-4) in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
Scranton held an early 2-1 lead after doubles as the senior duo of James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep)/Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) notched an 8-4 win at the No. 1 flight and junior Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park)/sophomore John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) picked up an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 flight.
All four afore-mentioned members of the Royals also picked up singles victories on the day.
In No. 1 singles, Harrington rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over the Falcons' Chase Wilson and O'Mara notched a thrilling 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 win over Connor Rose in second singles.
Budrys was a 6-2, 6-0 victor over Michael Sell at the fourth singles flight and Sinclair posted a 6-4, 6-7, 10-3 win over Carl Anderson at fifth singles.
The Royals will host Susquehanna to open conference play on Saturday afternoon with first serve at Birchwood Racquet Club slated for 1 p.m.
