Men's Tennis Uses Five Singles Victories to Topple Susquehanna in Landmark Opener, 7-2

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (3-7, 1-0 Landmark) won five of the six singles matches and opened Landmark Conference play with a 7-2 victory over the Susquehanna River Hawks (3-4, 0-2 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Birchwood Racquet Club in Clarks Summit.

The Royals held a 2-1 lead after doubles as the senior duo of James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep)/Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) notched an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and junior Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park)/sophomore John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) posted an 8-4 victory at the third flight.

Harrington cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Josh Sanderson in No. 1 singles and O'Mara rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 win over Tim Basta in second singles action.

Senior Nathan Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) added a 6-4, 6-2 win against Alex Baker at the third singles flight and Budrys got the best of John Duncan, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 in fourth singles. Sinclair also notched a 2-6, 6-1, 10-2 win over Thomas Hallahan in No. 5 singles.

Scranton looks for a third straight win when they host Juniata in a conference match on Sunday afternoon at the Royal Courts with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
