CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (5-5, 1-0 Landmark) rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Susquehanna River Hawks (1-7, 0-2 Landmark) to open conference play on Saturday afternoon at Birchwood Racquet Club in Clarks Summit.
Scranton led 3-0 after doubles play in which the hosts registered victories of 8-1, 8-0 and 8-2. In No. 1 doubles, the duo of senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/sophomore Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) notched an 8-1 win, while freshmen Paige Hunt (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) posted an 8-0 victory at the second flight. At the third doubles flight, the duo of sophomore Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional)/junior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) recorded an 8-2 victory.
In No. 1 singles, Nowak was a straight set winner (6-0, 6-1) over Julie Bramley and Wisniewski added a straight set win of her own (6-2, 6-4) over Kristen Bair in second singles. Sophomore Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) notched a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Julia Pardo in No. 3 singles and Sirico recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win against Eliza Mahoney at fourth singles.
Elsewhere for the Royals, sophomore Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and junior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 6 singles play.
The Royals will host Juniata in a Landmark Conference match on Sunday afternoon at the Royal Courts with first serve set for 1 p.m.
