SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton men's tennis team (4-7, 2-0 Landmark) defeated the Juniata Eagles (2-3, 0-2 Landmark) by a score of 8-1 at the Royal Courts on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals led 3-0 after doubles play as seniors James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep)/Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) notched an 8-5 win at first doubles and graduate student Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central)/senior Steven Prosperino (Brewster, N.Y. / North Salem Central) earned an 8-2 victory in No. 2 doubles. At third doubles, junior Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) and sophomore John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) recorded an 8-1 win.
Harrington fell to Juniata's Munoz after two close sets [6-7 (8-10), 5-7] in first singles and at second singles, O'Mara rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Axel Charbery while senior Nathan Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) then earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kyle Louder at third singles.
Budrys defeated Utsav Dhir Deravariya 6-2, 6-1 in fourth singles while Sinclair recorded a straight set (6-3, 6-3) victory in No 5 singles. Freshman Nathan Harrison (Pennsville, N.J./ Pennsville Memorial) battled Dillon Murray for a 6-3, 7-5 straight-set victory in sixth singles.
The Royals will be back on the court on Saturday in their Landmark Conference match against Catholic in Washington, D.C at 1 p.m.
