Box Score SCRANTON, PA (March 8, 2023) -- Senior captain Caroline Miller (Huntington, N.Y. / Elwood-John H. Glenn) recorded her 100th career draw control on Wednesday night at Weiss Field as The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 12 Ithaca, 12-8.
Miller becomes the 16th Royal in program history to reach the milestone.
After the Bombers scored the opening goal of the game in the first minute of play, the Royals responded with a 4-0 run which included a pair of goals from sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy). Ithaca closed the gap at the end of the first period to just 1 as they trailed Scranton 4-3.
Scoring was limited in the second quarter with a combined three goals from both sides. Lane completed her hattrick off a free position attempt and junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) scored her first goal of the lead to complete the opening half with the Royals ahead 6-4.
Ithaca controlled the third period, outscoring Scranton 5-1 to take a 9-7 lead into the final quarter. The Bombers then added three more goals to start the fourth period while the Royals struggled offensively, scoring just one more goal. Ithaca went on to defeat Scranton by a final score of 12-8.
Lane, Tanajewski and Miller all scored multiple goals for the Royals while sophomore Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) also got her name on the score sheet for Scranton. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y. / Sanford H. Calhoun) finished the game with 15 saves on 27 shots faced.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action next Tuesday when they take on Haverford at Weiss Field at 4:00 PM.
