Box Score SCRANTON, PA (April 1, 2023) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team was defeated 13-8 by Elizabethtown in Landmark Conference action at Weiss Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss the Royals move to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Elizabethtown got on the board first but Scranton responded quick as senior Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) scored the opening goal of the game for the Royals. Junior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) and senior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) added first period goals for Scranton but the Blue Jays held a 5-3 lead headed into the second quarter.
Crapanzano scored his second goal of the day to open up the second period and cut ETown's lead to just one. The Blue Jays answered with three consecutive goals to close out the first half with an 8-4 advantage over the Royals.
McAree got things started for Scranton in the third quarter as he found the back of the net for the second time to cut Elizabethtown's lead to 8-5. The Blue Jays continued to find answers throughout the third quarter as they held a five goal lead with one period remaining.
The two sides combined for just two goals in the final period as the Blue Jays held on to win 13-8.
Crapanzano led the Royals offensivley with three goals while sophomore Zachariah Palinkas (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) played well defensively recording a team-high five ground balls and one caused turnover.
The men's lacrosse team is back in action on Tuesday when they host Ithaca at Weiss Field at 7:00 PM.
