Box Score

SCRANTON, PA (April 15, 2023) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team picked up a 19-8 win over Goucher in its home finale at Weiss Field on Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.

With the win, the Royals move to 10-5 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

The Gophers scored the opening goal of the game at the 13:32 mark, but Scranton answered quick as junior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) found the back of the net off an assist from senior Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) to tie the game up at 1-1. Senior Nicholas Consoli (South Glastonbury, Conn. / Glastonbury) scored off a perfect feed from McAree at the tail end of the first period as the game was all tied up at 2-2 headed into the second quarter.

Following a goal from Goucher to open up the second period, the Royals went on a 4-0 run to take a 6-3 lead with 4:21 remaining in the first half. Scranton added two more goals to close out the second period with an 8-5 lead.

The Royals came out firing to start the second half as they outscored Goucher 8-1 in the third period to take a 16-6 lead with one quarter remaining.

Scranton added three more goals to its tally in the fourth period as it went on to win by a final score of 19-8 in a shortened game due to lightning.

Senior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) led the way for the Royals with four goals while fellow seniors Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) and Nick Donato (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) each recorded a hattrick in the win. McAree and Kozak each finished with a game-high six points while Crapanzano posted four points on two goals and two assists. Freshman Jason Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) recorded his second consecutive two goal performance for Scranton.

Sophomore Zachariah Palinkas (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) had a strong game defensively with a team-high seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) picked up his eighth win of the season while making 12 saves for the Royals.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action next Saturday, April 22 when it heads to Catholic for a 2:00 PM Landmark Conference matchup in Washington, D.C.
