WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (8-7, 4-2 Landmark) swept all three doubles matches and notched a 7-2 victory over the Catholic University Cardinals (6-10, 2-2 Landmark) on Sunday afternoon at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts in Washington, D.C.
Scranton currently sits third in the Landmark Conference standings with one regular season match remaining and the top four teams will qualify for the postseason.
In doubles play, the duo of senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/sophomore Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) notched an 8-3 victory at the first flight and freshman Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley)/sophomore Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) posted an 8-5 win in second doubles. At No. 3 doubles, the duo of sophomoreJulia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and junior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) were 8-5 winners.
Nowak dropped a 6-7, 7-5, 4-6 heartbreaker to Catholic's Brooke Simonson in No. 1 singles and Wisniewski notched a thrilling three set victory (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) in No. 2 singles for the Royals.
Reilly (6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles), Sirico (6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles) and junior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) who notched a 6-3, 6-1 win over Paige Brightwell in No. 6 singles were other singles winners in the match.
The Royals will host Drew in the regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
