SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (7-10) closed out the regular season in style with a 9-0 victory over the Wilkes Colonels (1-10) in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
In doubles play, the senior duo of Steven Prosperino (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem Central)/Nathan Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) notched an 8-5 victory at the first flight and junior Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park)/sophomore John Sinclair (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) added an 8-5 win of their own at the second flight. At the No. 3 doubles spot, graduate student Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central)/freshman Nathan Harrison (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) posted an 8-3 victory.
Senior James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) notched a 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles and classmate Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory of his own at second singles. At No. 3 singles, Tauber rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Wilkes' Jonah Nguyen and Budrys was a 6-4, 6-2 winner against Donovan Zong at No. 4 singles.
Sinclair added a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own over Ian Williams in No. 5 singles and Sullivan took a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 6 singles.
The Royals are back in action on Tuesday afternoon for a Landmark Conference semifinal match at Drew with first serve set for 4 p.m.
