SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (9-8) won five of the six singles matches and closed out the regular season with a 6-3 victory over the Wilkes Colonels (6-6) in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
Wilkes held a 2-1 lead after doubles despite an 8-2 victory from the No. 1 duo of senior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/freshman Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley). The No. 3 duo of freshman Grace Lennox (Peckville, Pa./Valley View)/sophomore Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker.
Nowak added a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Wilkes' Cassidy Greenman in No. 1 singles and Sirico notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory of her own against Zoe Klein at No. 3 singles.
Other singles winners for Scranton included sophomore Taralyn Reilly (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) with a 7-6, 6-0 win in No. 4 singles, junior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) with an 8-4 victory in No. 5 singles and freshman Paige Hunt (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) who notched a 6-1, 6-1 win in sixth singles.
The Royals return to the courts on Wednesday for a Landmark Conference semifinal match at Drew with first serve set for 4 p.m.
