Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (7-9) nearly battled all the way back from an early 5-0 deficit, but the Royals dropped a 13-9 decision to the Cabrini Cavaliers (11-5) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Cabrini scored just 0:42 into the game and controlled the first quarter with five unanswered goals to take a 5-0 lead after one. However, Scranton began to battle back early in the second and sophomore Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) got the Royals on the board off a feed from classmate Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy). Lane added a free position goal later in the quarter and junior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) struck with 2:10 remaining to cut the lead to 5-3, but a late Cabrini goal made it 6-3 in favor of the hosts at the half.
After the Cavaliers opened the scoring in the third quarter, Lane answered 21 seconds later to cut the lead to 7-4 with 14:20 to play in the period. Following a Cabrini goal, Lane and McCarren struck just 0:39 seconds apart near the midway point of the quarter to bring Scranton with a pair at 8-6. The Cavaliers then answered with four goals over the final six plus minutes of the quarter to extend the advantage to 12-6 at the end of three.
Junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) scored a pair of goals and freshman Mia Dinnocenzio (New Winsdor, N.Y./Cornwall Central) added a goal of her own in the final 15 minutes for the Royals.
Lane scored three plus goals for the 11th time in 16 games to lead the Royals offensively, while McCarren and Stalter recorded three points apiece on two goals and an assist.
Junior Grace Dabulas (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) added a career-high nine draw controls on the night and freshman Eva Guerino (Hopewell, N.J./Pennington School) made a career-best 11 saves in 49:03 of action.
Olivia Little led Cabrini with seven points on three goals and four assists.
The Royals return home to host Susquehanna in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field with opening draw slated for 1 p.m.
