Box Score SELINSGROVE, PA (April 29, 2023) -- Senior Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) scored the 100th goal of his career and led The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory at Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.
Crapanzano becomes just the fifth player in program history to reach the 100 goal milestone and hits the mark in only three seasons at Scranton.
With the win, head coach Michael Hofmeister's squad improves to 12-5 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
Susquehanna got on the board first at the 13:45 mark, but Crapanzano found an answer for the Royals as he leveled the game at 1-1 less than two minutes later. Both sides continued to trade goals throughout the remainder of the first period and the game remained locked up at 4-4 headed into the second quarter.
The Riverhawks scored the opening goal of the second period but the Royals answered with three straight goals to take a 7-5 lead with just less than 20 second remaining in the first half. A last second goal brought Susquehanna within one at the end of the opening half.
Susquehanna tied up the game at 7-7 to open up the third period but Crapanzano helped the Royals regain their lead soon after as he scored off an assist from fellow senior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial). Freshman Pat McCormack (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston) followed up with his second goal of the day to give Scranton a 9-7 lead with 10:22 remaining in the third quarter. After a pair of goals from Susquehanna tied the game back up at 9-9, senior Nick Donato (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) scored a late goal to give Scranton a 10-9 lead headed into the final period.
The Royals shut out the Riverhawks in the fourth period while freshman Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) and junior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) each scored goals as Scranton went on to win by a final score of 12-9.
Crapanzano scored a game-high three goals on the day while Kozak added a game-high five points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Zachariah Palinkas (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) led the way defensively for Scranton with a game-high three caused turnovers.
Freshman goalkeeper Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) earned his 10th win of the season while making 11 saves for the Royals.
The men's lacrosse team will now get set to host Catholic in the Landmark semifinals on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at Weiss Field.
