Lane Leads Women's Lacrosse to Landmark Semifinal Victory Over Moravian, 13-10

BETHLEHEM, PA (May 3, 2023) -- Sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) scored a game-high five goals and added an assist to lead The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (9-9, 5-2 LC) to a 13-10 win over Moravian (12-6, 6-2 LC) in the Landmark Conference Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon in Bethlehem, PA.

With the win, the Royals advance to the Landmark Championship where they'll take on Catholic on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Washington, D.C.

The Greyhounds got on the board first as they opened up the scoring on the day with a goal at the 13:19 mark to take an early 1-0 lead. Scranton bounced back with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the first quarter. Moravian score a pair of goals to close out the opening period and tie the game up at 3-3.

Lane got things going for Scranton to start the second period as she scored off a free-position attempt to give the Royals a one goal advantage. Junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) made it 5-3 with 2:53 remaining in the first half. The Greyhounds scored a late goal in the final minute of the opening half to cut Scrantons' lead to just one headed into the break. 

Moravian scored three straight goals ot start the second half and took a 7-5 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the third period. The Royals then answered with a four goal run of their own, including two goals from Lane and two from junior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side). Scranton held a 9-8 lead with one period remaining in the game.

Lane and Reich each added another goal in the opening three minutes of the fourth quarter to give the Royals a three goal cushion with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation. After Moravian cut Scranton's lead to just two with six minutes left, sophomore Catherine McGlynn (Medford, N.J. / Shawnee) sealed the win with a goal off an assist from Lane. The Royals would go on to win by a final score of 13-10.

Lane finished with a game-high six points while Reich added three goals and one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y. / Sanford H. Calhoun) had another strong game in net for Scranton as she made 11 saves and picked up her ninth win of the season.
