Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (0-1) battled until the end, but dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen (2-0) in the Royals' fall 2023 opener on Thursday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
LVC held a 2-1 lead after doubles play despite an 8-3 victory from freshmen Harrison Clark (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Lucas Kotcho (Jermyn, Pa./Valley View) at the third doubles flight.
Fellow freshmen Maxwell Dombrowski (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Dutchmen's Jessie Beck in No. 1 singles, while senior Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) dropped a three-set heartbreaker (7-6, 3-7, 6-7) to Adam Warren in second singles.
Clark notched a three-set victory (6-7, 6-1, 6-4) against Brady McLucas at No. 4 singles and Kotcho rounded out the singles victories for the Royals with a 7-6, 6-1 win in No. 6 singles.
The Royals are back in action this weekend for the King's Fall Invitational that will get underway on Saturday at 9 a.m.
