Field Hockey Rolls Past Lycoming, 4-0

WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- A strong first half led The University of Scranton field hockey team past Lycoming College by a final score of 4-0 at UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium Tuesday night. 

The Basics

  • Final Score: Scranton 4, Lycoming 0
  • Records: Scranton (16-3, 7-2 LC), Lycoming (8-9, 3-6 LC)

How it Happened

  • Scranton broke the ice eight minutes into the game when freshman Shana Goldsmith grabbed the loose ball in front of the cage and pushed it past Lycoming's goalie to put the Royals ahead 1-0.
  • Goldsmith struck for the second time less than four minutes later, taking a crosser from graduate student Elle Collins and putting it in the back left of the cage for her second goal of the game.
  • With 7:42 left in the second quarter, sophomore Maggie Keys took a pass from senior Lauren Franco and ripped it into the goal, putting Scranton up by three goals. 
  • Franco added the Royal's fourth goal of the game in the final minutes on a penalty stroke attempt, perfectly placing the ball in the top left corner of the cage.

  • Goldsmith tallied the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
  • Keys scored her first goal of the year. 
  • Franco recorded her third goal of the season.
