GALLOWAY, N.J. – An early 5-0 deficit proved costly as The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (1-3) dropped a 15-6 decision to the Stockton Ospreys (2-0) in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Stockton Turf Field in Galloway.
Stockton opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game and used a tally from Connor Albrecht with 0:08 left in the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead after one. Following an Ospreys goal to open the second, sophomore Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) got the Royals on the board with an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 5-1 with 10:31 to play. Later in the quarter, Stockton held an 8-2 advantage before goals by Holmes and senior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) helped draw the Royals within 8-4 at the half.
The Ospreys tallied the first three goals of the third quarter before a Holmes goal at the 8:27 mark brought Scranton within 11-5. McAree scored the sixth and final goal of the contest for the Royals in the fourth quarter.
Holmes and McAree each registered a hat trick to lead the way for the Royals offensively, while sophomore Quinn Carson (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) added a pair of assists.
Graduate student Colin Pierce (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) collected a team-high three ground balls on the night and added a caused turnover.
Reegan Capozzoli scored four goals to pace Stockton.
Scranton is back in action on Saturday at Cortland with action slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
