Women's Tennis Drops 5-4 Heartbreaker to Drew

MADISON, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (5-6, 3-1 Landmark) dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to the Drew Rangers (4-5, 4-0 Landmark) in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday at Simon Forum in Madison.

Scranton's top doubles duo of graduate student Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/junior Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) captured a thrilling 8-7 victory over Drew's Melina Christodoulou/Mary Kalorin, but the Rangers captured the final two doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead.

In No. 1 singles play, Nowak dropped a three-set heartbreaker (6-7, 6-4, 2-6) to Christodoulou, while freshman Gisele Falzone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Scranton Prep) rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Danielle Pettoni in third singles.

Sophomore Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) added a 7-5, 1-6 10-3 win in No. 5 singles and sophomore Paige Hunt (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) was a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 winner to round out singles play.

The Royals will host Elizabethtown in a Landmark match on Saturday, Apr. 6 at the Royal Courts with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
