BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Graduate student Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) broke the program's singles wins record as The University of Scranton women's tennis team (7-7, 5-2 Landmark) dropped a tough 6-3 decision to the Moravian Greyhounds (12-3, 5-1 Landmark) on Sunday at the Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
Nowak notched a thrilling 6-0, 6-7, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles for the 50th singles win of her career, which surpassed the previous record of 49 that had been set by Emily Walsh in 2016. The Freeland, Pa., native trailed 5-2 in the third set and trailed 40-15 with the match on the line, but fought off five match points and rallied for the record-breaking win.
The 50 career singles victories are also tied for the fourth-most all-time in Landmark Conference history.
Moravian grabbed an early 3-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches.
In second singles action, junior Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) dropped a 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 heartbreaker to Moravian's Izzy Smodis. Freshman Gisele Falzone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Scranton Prep) notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Ali Bender in third singles and sophomore Paige Hunt (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win against Gabby Martin in sixth singles.
Scranton will head to Lycoming on Wednesday afternoon with first serve slated for 4 p.m.
