WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Freshman Erin O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) won the No. 4 singles title as The University of Scranton women's tennis team opened the Fall 2024 season at the King's Fall Invitational on Sunday at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.
O'Mara opened with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alexis Turayev of King's before notching a 6-3, 7-5 win against Misericordia's Erin Cridge in the semifinal match and then captured the title via a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Lycoming's Sadie Stahl.
At the second singles flight, senior Mayjah Jean-Pierre (Linden, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) registered a 6-0, 6-3 win against Teresa Thomas of Misericordia before falling in the semifinals and sophomore Gisele Falzone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Scranton Prep) posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory in her first match at third singles.
Senior Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) swept her way past FDU-Florham's Melanie Perez and then defeated Lycoming's Cassandra Conner in a 6-2, 6-0 decision before falling in the finals to Isabella Aniska of Misericordia.
The No. 1 doubles team of Falzone and Jean-Pierre along with the No. 2 doubles team of senior Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and sophomore Kyleigh McNulty (Bay Shore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) both advanced to the final matches at their respective flights.
Scranton will host Marywood on Tuesday afternoon at the Royal Courts with first serve slated for 4 p.m.
