Scranton, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's swimming team opened its 2025–26 season in style, posting a convincing 181–81 victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon at the Byron Recreation Complex.
The Royals wasted no time making a statement, sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The "A" squad of Kim Gingrass (JR), Sami Roerig (SO), Alyssa Bean (SO), and Amelia Griffin (FR) took first place with a time of 1:54.94, followed closely by the "B" relay team at 1:57.93.
Senior Aviah Dahlgren led the charge with a pair of impressive wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.12) and 500-yard freestyle (5:30.08), setting the pace for the Royals' distance dominance. Sophomore Olivia Thomas and freshman Kathryn Dilenge added second- and third-place finishes in the 500 free, giving Scranton a sweep of the event.
Sophomore Alyssa Bean turned in one of the day's top performances, winning three individual events — the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.79), 100-yard backstroke (1:03.09), and 50-yard butterfly (28.15) — while also contributing to the Royals' victorious medley relay team.
Junior Kim Gingrass continued her strong form by winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.59) and anchoring the Royals' first-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:47.78), alongside Hailey Wilcox (FR), Aviah Dahlgren (SR), and Amelia Griffin (FR).
