Dahlgren Breaks Two Program Records as Scranton Women's Swimming Places Third at Gettysburg Invitational

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's swimming team delivered a strong and balanced two-day effort at the Gettysburg Invitational this weekend, finishing third of six teams with 535 points

Scranton opened the meet with a competitive showing in the 500 freestyle, led by Campbell DeLuca, who placed fourth in 5:10.93. Sophia Markatos added a 5:33.41, while Izzy Lerner turned in a 5:49.15 to round out the Royals' early distance efforts.

The Royals followed with solid contributions in the 100 butterfly, where Isabella Kane clocked a 1:02.92 and Aviah Dahlgren finished close behind in 1:03.11. Emily Carr added a 1:08.76, giving Scranton several strong swims in one of the largest events of the session.

In sprint freestyle, Amelia Griffin led the way with a ninth-place finish in the 100 free (55.05), with Hailey Wilcox touching in 55.72 for another top-12 result. Samantha Vautrot and Sadie Potts added season-best efforts that helped strengthen Scranton's mid-meet scoring.

Relay strength anchored much of the Royals' success. The 400 free relay of Kimberly Gingrass, Amelia Griffin, Hailey Wilcox, and Aviah Dahlgren placed seventh in 3:42.29, while the B-relay of Alyssa Bean, Olivia Thomas, Katie Hosko, and Meredith Sulman finished just behind in 3:45.33 to secure additional points.

The defining performance of the weekend came in the 1650 freestyle, where Aviah Dahlgren delivered one of the best distance swims in program history. Dahlgren finished second overall in 17:52.30, establishing a new program record in the 1650, and during that swim, she also broke the school record in the 1000 freestyle with a split of 10:46.02, surpassing a standard that had stood since 2003.

Across two full days of competition, the Royals showcased their depth and improvement, using a blend of top-end performances and relay consistency to secure their third-place finish.

Up Next: Scranton will compete at Wilkes University on January 10 at 1:00 p.m.
