Preview: Men's Lacrosse Set to Host Elizabethtown in Landmark Championship on Saturday

The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team will look to capture its third straight Landmark Conference Championship against Elizabethtown College on Saturday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m.

Championship Game Info

  • The contest will take place on Saturday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the second game of a championship doubleheader at Weiss Field in Scranton, PA.
  • Tickets: $10 for adults (18+), $5 for minors (10-17), free for children 9 and under, and Landmark students and faculty with ID. Cash will not be accepted at the venue. Click here to purchase tickets.

Scranton

  • Record: (10-8, 9-0 LC)
  • Last Landmark Championship: 2024
  • The Royals took down Catholic University 16-8 in the semifinals to earn their spot in the Landmark Championship game.
  • Scranton leads the conference in save percentage (.587) and ranks second in goals against average (9.20).
  • Head coach Michael Hofmeister is in his eighth year at Scranton and has led the Royals to a 76-51 record. Hofmeister is the winningest coach in program history and led the Royals to a perfect 9-0 record in conference play for the first time since Scranton joined the Landmark Conference. 

Royals to Watch

  • Junior Kyle Holmes leads Scranton's attacking unit with 45 points on 40 goals and five assists. Holmes earned First Team All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. Earlier this season, he reached both the 100 career points and goals milestones.
  • Junior midfielder Jason Kozak also earned First Team All-Conference accolades this season and ranks second behind Holmes in points at 42 on 30 goals and 12 assists.
  • Scranton's defense is anchored by senior Zachariah Palinkas who garnered Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors and was a First Team All-Conference selection. Palinkas ranks second on the team this season in caused turnovers at 18.

Elizabethtown

  • Record: (11-6, 8-1 LC)
  • Last Landmark Championship: 2019
  • The Blue Jays defeated Susquehanna University 12-8 in the semifinals to advance to the Championship.
  • ETown leads the Landmark in goals against average (8.60) and ranks second in save percentage (.576).
  • Head coach Kyle McGuire is in his fifth season at Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays have reached the championship game in each of McGuire's five seasons but he has yet to secure a title.

Blue Jays to Watch

  • Sophomore Tristan Coleman leads ETown and ranks fourth in the conference with 80 points this season and was a Second Team All-Conference selection.
  • Graduate student goalie Brayden Franey leads the Landmark in goals against average at 8.57 and earned Second Team All-Conference honors.

Championship Facts

  • This marks the third straight meeting in the Landmark Title game between Scranton and ETown. Scranton has defeated the Blue Jays in both of the last two championships. 
  • Scranton looks to become the first team to win three straight Landmark Titles since ETown accomplished the feat in 2017-19. 
  • Elizabethtown is making its ninth straight appearance in the championship game.
  • Both programs are searching for their fourth all-time Landmark Championship victory which would tie Catholic for the most in conference history. 

Series History

  • Since 2002, ETown has won 16 of 23 contests against the Royals.
  • Scranton has won the last two contests, including a 14-4 victory earlier this season.
