SCRANTON, Pa. -- After a record-breaking performance that helped lead The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team to a third straight Landmark Conference Championship, senior Aviah Dahlgren has been named Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Dahlgren delivered a historic weekend in the pool as the Royals captured the program's sixth conference title, finishing with 887 points to edge Catholic University of America's 873. The championship marks Scranton's second three-peat in program history and the third conference title under head coach Chris Brown.
Dahlgren etched her name in the record books twice, setting new program standards in both distance freestyle events. She broke the school record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:44.59, then capped the meet with another record-breaking swim in the 1650 freestyle, winning the event in 17:51.98.Â
In addition to her individual title, Dahlgren added a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle and played a key role in multiple scoring relays throughout the championship. She swam the anchor leg of the 800 freestyle relay that placed second in 7:54.69 on opening night, keeping the Royals within striking distance early in the meet. Dahlgren also contributed to a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and helped power the 400 freestyle relay to a runner-up finish in 3:41.10 on the final day.
For her standout, record-setting performance at the Landmark Conference Championships, Dahlgren is honored as this week's Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week.
