The top-seeded University of Scranton women's tennis team advanced to the Landmark Conference Championship match with a 4-1 victory over No. 4 seed Drew University on Thursday afternoon at the Birchwood Racquet Club.
With the win, the defending Landmark Conference Champions improve to 13-3 on the season and move one step closer to repeating as conference champions.
Scranton opened the match by claiming the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The pairing of Sarah Crawford and Gisele Falzone earned a 6-1 win at the top spot, while Kyleigh McNulty and Erin O'Mara secured a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Royals carried that momentum into singles play, where Sarah Crawford earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Gisele Falzone then clinched the match for Scranton with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
Hannah Rowan also picked up a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles, winning 6-4, 6-2.
Drew earned its lone point at No. 5 singles, while matches at No. 3 and No. 6 singles were left unfinished.
Scranton will now advance to the Landmark Conference Championship match on Saturday, May 2 at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Royals will face the winner of the other semifinal matchup between No. 2 seed Moravian University and No. 3 seed Catholic University.
