The University of Scranton Executive Director of Athletics Dave Martin has announced the promotion of Peter Blasi '00 to head coach of the Royals men's and women's golf programs following the retirement of longtime head coach Ed Karpovich.

Blasi returns to his alma mater after serving as an assistant coach for the Royals last season. A three-year varsity letter winner for Scranton from 1996-2000, Blasi brings both competitive experience and a deep connection to the program.

A 2000 graduate of The University of Scranton with a degree in biochemistry, Blasi earned a Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law, completed a visiting year at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, and earned his MBA from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. He is also a registered U.S. Patent Attorney.

Since 2007, Blasi has worked in the intellectual property and scientific information and technology industries in a variety of client-facing sales roles. His analytical background, strategic mindset, and passion for golf provide a strong foundation as he takes over leadership of the Royals programs.

A member of Wyoming Valley Country Club since 2017, Blasi remains an active golfer and passionate advocate for the game.

"It is an honor to return to the University of Scranton and lead both programs. This place has meant a great deal to me, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to give back in this role," said Blasi. "Coach Karpovich built something truly special over the last 44 years, and I was fortunate to experience that legacy as a player in the late 1990s and again as an assistant coach last season. The standard he set, both in competition and in how the program represents the University, is one I take seriously and will work to uphold.

"We have a group of student-athletes who are committed, disciplined, and take great pride in their work on and off the course. I am excited to support their development and ensure the program continues to reflect the values of the University while competing at a high level."

Blasi succeeds Karpovich, who retired following 44 years of leading the Royals men's and women's golf programs. Karpovich's dedication and leadership helped shape generations of student-athletes and established a strong foundation for the future of Scranton golf.
