AURORA, NY—Junior midfielder Alyssa
Fania (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) scored a
career-high three goals and added an assist to lead The University
of Scranton field hockey team to an 8-1 victory over Wells College
in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Royals also received a goal apiece from junior Emily
Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown), sophomores
Alyssa Whitman (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon
Valley) and Meghan
Kearney (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), and
freshman Elizabeth Franko (Falls, Pa./Tunkhannock) to
post their third straight win to improve to 11-1.
Wells, now 3-11, avoided the shutout on a goal by Shainne Stokes in
the 68th minute off of a penalty corner. Marina Fargnoli was
credited with an assist on the play.
Scranton dominated play from start to finish, holding a 24-5
advantage in shots and a 9-2 margin in penalty corner.
Fania, the Royals’ leading scorer with 11 goals and five
assists for 27 total points on the season, scored twice in the
first half as Scranton bolted out to a 5-0 lead by
intermission. Her seven points today moves her into 15th
place on the Royals’ all-time scoring list with 55 total
points (22 goals, 11 assists).
Scranton’s eight goals is a season high and the most since
scoring eight against Immaculata University on September 25, 2012,
at Fitzpatrick Field.
The Royals will return home to face SUNY-Oneonta this Thursday,
October 17, at Fitzpatrick Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
