BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's
tennis team did not lose a set en route to a dominant 9-0 victory
at Moravian College in Landmark Conference play on Tuesday
afternoon.
Five Royals each posted two victories as Scranton improved to
2-4 overall and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play. Seniors Tim McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton
Preparatory), Joe
Morra (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Preparatory), Mike Pannone (Maplewood, N.J./Seton Hall
Preparatory) and Bennett Kelley (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley
Central) and junior David
Teres (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) each and
victories in singles and doubles.
McGurrin and Teres combined for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles
while Morra and Pannone squeaked out a 9-8 (9-7) win at No. 2
doubles. Kelley teamed with fellow senior Devin Patel (Clarks
Summit, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) for an 8-0 win at third
doubles.
In singles, McGurrin won in the top spot, 6-2, 6-1, while Teres
won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. At third singles, Morra won 6-0, 6-2, while
Pannone earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4. The Royals finished the
sweep as Kelley took the fifth singles match, 6-2, 6-2, and
freshman James
Dalkiewicz (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman) won at No. 6
singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Scranton returns to action on Saturday, April 13, when it hosts
Landmark Conference foe Susquehanna University at 1 p.m. at Royal
Courts at DeNaples Fields.
