The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team held
Elizabethtown to one second half goal while erasing a halftime
deficit en route to a 9-5 victory on Wednesday afternoon at
Fitzpatrick Field.
The Royals (7-4) received three goals and an assist from senior
midfielder John Gregitis
(Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and three goals from senior
attacker Gus Sturm (Devon,
Pa./Conestoga) in the victory.
Scranton trailed at halftime, 4-3, but kept the Blue Jays (4-5)
off the scoreboard in the second half until there was just 1:32
remaining in the game and the Royals were comfortably ahead, 9-4.
The Royals won all nine second-half faceoffs, had a 28-7 advantage
in shots in the second half, and had 29 ground balls after
halftime.
Sophomore midfielder Alec Mikrut (Belle
Mead, N.J./Montgomery) had two goals and an assist for the
Royals, and freshman attacker Brian Quinn
(Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) added a goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Nicholas
McKaba (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) made nine saves
in the victory.
Junior midfielder Matt Finor
(Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) won 14 of 17
faceoffs and had a team-high seven ground balls, and senior
defenseman Mike Deliberti
(Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) had five ground
balls
The Royals return to action on Saturday, April 5, when they host
Drew at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference game at Fitzpatrick
Field.
