The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team simply could not find the back of the net in Saturday's regular season finale, falling to Catholic, 11-3, on Senior Day at Fitzpatrick Field.

The Royals (11-5, 3-3 Landmark), Cardinals (9-6, 3-3) and Merchant Marine Academy (10-4, 3-3) finished in a three-way tie for third after Saturday's action, which included Merchant Marine's 19-4 loss at home to Susquehanna. The tiebreaker came down to goal differential in the games played among the three teams, and Catholic finished with a plus-6 differential to earn the third seed, Scranton finished even to earn the fourth seed, and Merchant Marine finished fifth with a minus-six goal differential.

Scranton will travel to top-seeded Elizabethtown on Wednesday, May 4 at 4 p.m. for a semifinal matchup. The Blue Jays defeated the Royals 9-7 in the regular season matchup a week ago. Second-seeded Susquehanna will host Catholic in the other semifinal, also Wednesday at 4 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship on Saturday, May 7, at the home site of the highest remaining seed.

In Saturday's game at Fitzpatrick Field, Scranton trailed 2-0 after a period, then pulled within 3-2 at halftime. But Catholic scored three straight goals to start the second half and held Scranton to just one goal after the break to earn the victory.

Scranton received goals from senior midfielder Josh Kasman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), junior attackman Jake Haimson (Montville, N.J./Montville) and sophomore midfielder Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade). Senior midfielder Brad Elkin (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) added a pair of assists.

The Royals held a 47-29 edge in shots, but Catholic's two goalkeepers combined for 16 saves. Each team had 11 turnovers and the Royals won 12 of 17 faceoffs behind the work of sophomore midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) in the middle. Elkin added a team-high five ground balls.

Prior to the start of the game, the Royals honored their 10 seniors as part of Senior Day – defenseman Chris Carfaro (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris), Elkin, Kasman, attackman Andrew Marone (Morristown, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), goalkeeper Nicholas McKaba (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris), midfielder Alec Mikrut (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery), midfielder Nick Mullery (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), defenseman Patrick Niebler (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), midfielder Nicholas Swift (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and defenseman Keith Vita (Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony's).
